Canadian Muslims for Peace and Justice (CMPJ) Presents

NATIONAL MONTHLY LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGN TO MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT

"Ten minutes out of your life CAN SAVE A PERSON'S ENTIRE LIFE! Please take ten minutes to help levy constitutional pressure in order to restore the rights of fellow Canadian, Maher Arar, who is still in Syria.  By each of us sending a letter to our respective MPs, we will emphasize the urgency in ensuring the safety and immediate release of Mr. Arar to Canada.  As a Canadian this warrants a response from your MP. Please participate in this national effort to demand peace and justice now."

Dear People For Peace and Justice,

Attached is detailed information for you as an organisation or as an individual to participate in the seventh month of our National Monthly Letter Writing Campaign. As usual we ask that letters be sent out on the first Monday of every month until constitutional changes are apparent. This month it will be on Monday, December 2, 2002.

The specific topic we are concentrating on this month is:

DEMAND IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF CANADIAN STILL JAILED IN SYRIA

Attached is an  informational package for this event which includes:

  1. A flyer concerning the event for you to advertise in your own community, organisation, university, school, work or place of worship.

  2. An informational package on the current suggested topic and how to contact your Member of Parliament.

  3. A sample letter to utilize, if you wish.

We are asking that you mobilize not only active political members of your community, but also your own family members, friends and co-workers. Every single letter counts in order to levy constitutional pressure within your own district and thus the federal government.

You may also choose to conduct this event at a certain location or in various homes in your community.

Please do keep in mind that a hand-written letter is the most receptive method of communication second to meeting personally with your MP. In addition, if you are sending a letter to your MP in your district, a stamp is NOT required.

You may also simply choose to write a letter from your heart. It is usually these letters that serve the purpose best. However, make sure to state what steps you would like the government to take concerning your request.

If you think you are not a good letter writer, utilize the letter provided in the informational package, or simply send a poem of your liking or a visual statement.

If for some reason you do not have time to send your letter by mail, please take into consideration to either fax your letter, make a phone call or least of all, send an e-mail, although this may be the least effective method of communication.

Confused on how to contact your Member of Parliament? Please see the informational package.

Please feel free to write letters on your own time throughout the month aside from the first Monday of each month.

Join us in this nation-wide event on the first Monday of every month. Mark your calendar today! WE WILL NOT STOP WRITING AND LOBBYING UNTIL JUSTICE IS SERVED.

The people, united, will never be divided nor defeated.

Yours in peace,
Canadian Muslims for Peace and Justice (CMPJ)
