A Letter to the Muslims

Dear Muslim Supporter:

MAS Freedom Foundation has been working tirelessly to defend your rights and to expand the civic and political empowerment of all Muslim Americans.

MAS Freedom, a non-profit organization and part of the Muslim American Society, was founded in 2002 to build and support an integrated empowerment process for the American Muslim community through civic education, participation, community outreach, and coalition building. In this short period of time since its formation we have accomplished the following:

• Implemented a nationwide interactive Muslim civic and civil rights training workshop which received national recognition by the Associated Press http://www.masnet.org/news_and_releases/ap.htm);
• Implemented a national comprehensive voter registration campaign;
• Cosponsored the largest rallies on Palestine and Iraq in the nation's capitol;
• Developed a working partnership with NAACP on civil rights, affirmative action, law enforcement conduct, and racial and religious profiling;
• Provided nationwide civil liberties teach-ins on college campuses;
• Gained recognition by organized labor for outstanding work on labor justice;
• Helped to defeat legalized slot gambling in the state of Maryland (http://www.masnet.org/news_and_releases/gamblingdefeated.htm);
• Provided congressional testimony in opposition to the war in Iraq;
• Proposed a Congressional Resolution on Hate Crimes and Backlash Against Muslims, Arabs, South Asians and Sikhs;
• Provided leadership in opposition of Fleet bank's unjustified closing bank accounts of Muslim customers (see http://www.masnet.org/news_and_releases/fleet2.htm);
• Co-chaired national peace delegation to the United Nations, Iraq and the US State Department;
• Published The Masjid Voter Guide, the Masjid Activist Handbook, A Muslim's Guide to American Politics and Government, and other publications on civic participation;
• Served on Congressman John Conyers' Palestinian-Israeli Peace Task Force;
• Provided leadership on the boards of directors of two of America's largest interfaith organizations;
• Providing a Muslim civil rights and constitutional law internship program for Muslim law students
• Granted numerous news interviews to national and international media, highlighting American Muslim views on domestic and foreign affairs;
• Organized and developed five MAS Freedom satellite offices in order to organize grassroots efforts on the local level;
• Co-hosted Mayor Anthony Williams' (Washington, DC) Muslim Summit;
• And many more activities and events impacting the Muslim community.

All of this we have accomplished with a small staff and an extremely limited budget, by Allah's (SWT) leave, and with support of Muslims who have demonstrated a commitment to fulfill the mandate of Allah (SWT) to "enjoin that which is good and forbid that which is bad", in a quest to make a better America for ourselves, our children, and all Americans. WE WANT TO DO MORE. We are honored to represent the interests of American Muslims and we invite you to support the effort.
